Formaldehyde Classified as Known Human Carcinogen


The 2011 Report on Carcinogens (12th Edition), released by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Public Health Service, National Toxicology Program, has changed the listing of formaldehyde to known to be a human carcinogen.   Go to Article

Styrene Classified as Reasonably Anticipated to be a Human Carcinogen

The National Toxicology Program of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has listed styrene, a common chemical used in rubber, plastic, food containers and carpet backing, as reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen in its 2011 Report on Carcinogens.   Go to Article

ANSI/BIFMA Releases Revised Low VOC-Emitting Office Furniture and Seating Standards

The American National Standards Institute and the Building and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association (ANSI/BIFMA) has released its revised versions of M7.1-2011 Standard Test Method for Determining VOC Emissions from Office Furniture Systems, Components and Seating, and X7.1-2011 Standard for Formaldehyde and TVOC Emissions of Low-Emitting Office Furniture and Seating.   Go to Article

ANSI/BIFMA e3-2010 Furniture Sustainability Standard Gains Traction


The ANSI/BIFMA e3-2010 Furniture Sustainability Standard establishes performance criteria for sustainable furniture manufacturing that addresses environmental and social aspects throughout the life cycle chain. The Standard “provides a pathway towards sustainability by establishing measurable criteria for multiple levels of achievement and/or performance.”   Go to Article
